When is the best season?
Da Nang changes a lot with the seasons. The dry season, roughly February through August, brings plenty of sunshine and calm, swimmable seas. From September to January, rain and typhoons are more common, and rough seas can make swimming impossible on some days. For a first trip, choosing the dry season keeps your plans from falling apart.
Which area should I stay in?
Accommodation in Da Nang basically comes down to two choices: along My Khe Beach, or downtown near the Han River.
- My Khe Beach side: Lined with resort hotels, overwhelmingly convenient if the beach is your priority. It's a distance from the city center, though, so you'll need a ride-hailing app or taxi to get around.
- Downtown (near the Han River): Close to the Dragon Bridge and night markets, better suited to a stay centered on food and walking around. The beach is about a 15-minute drive away.
Rather than committing to just one area on your first trip, splitting your stay โ beach side for the first half, downtown for the second โ lets you experience the best of both.
How do I get around locally?
Ride-hailing apps like Grab are widely used here, so you can get around without haggling over fares. Installing the app on your phone before you arrive removes a lot of first-day stress.
What mistakes do first-timers make?
Packing the schedule too tight. Da Nang alone has plenty to see, but if you also try to squeeze in nearby Hoi An or Ba Na Hills, entire days can disappear just to travel. My honest takeaway after five trips: on your first visit, don't overpack the itinerary โ a relaxed pace around Da Nang city itself is just about right.
